SyncroTESS, a system developed by the Aachen software specialist INFORM, is to take over the transport optimisation and management of patients and patient-related supplies at University Hospital Aachen (UKA). Via a bi-directional connection, SyncroTESS will exchange transport-relevant information with the hospital information system (HIS) medico/s. In this way the system will be fully integrated into UKA’s IT-environment.
UKA is not only a hospital, but also a place of medical research and education. The Faculty of Medicine at the RWTH Aachen University is also based there. The implementation of the idea to unit teaching, research and medical care under one roof is unique in Germany. UKA is the only hospital in the Aachen area which provides the maximum level of health care. Patient diagnosis and treatment takes place in 34 clinical departments and 23 institutes. The hospital has a total of 1360 beds and around 5500 employees.
The University Hospital Aachen is well-known for its new building inaugurated in 1985 by the Aachen architects Weber and Brand. This is not only one of the biggest hospital buildings in Europe, but it is also unusual in its interior and exterior design. The main building, a reinforced concrete skeleton construction, whereby the inside building service engineering is in full view, is one of the few big representations of the so called „technical modernism“. Since the end of November 2008, the hospital has been placed under a preservation order as „the most significant example of hi-tech architecture in Germany“.
The project start of implementing the software took place last month. The project team is looking forward to a successful future cooperation.
