DuPont Optimizes Coatings Production with INFORM Software

DuPont Performance Coatings is the business unit which combines all of the coating activities of the US group DuPont. DuPont has been developing, producing and marketing coating systems for more than a century.

DuPont Performance Coatings consists of 35 production sites with approximately 13,000 employees in more than 35 countries on all continents. The Wuppertal site produces automotive coatings and refinish systems, coatings for plastic surfaces, metal coatings, electrodeposition coatings, wire enamels, electro impregnating agents and special adhesives.

Since 1999 DuPont Performance Coatings in Wuppertal have been using the transport control system SyncroTESS of INFORM in the area of Automotive Coatings production. Fork lift trucks, tractors and trailers are controlled via an automatic control center. Order input is executed via Intranet by means of the module EXTAN and by assignment from feeder systems. Transport orders are transmitted to the vehicles via a radio data system of Psion Teklogix.

At the end of last year DuPont Performance Coatings ordered a system Upgrade. Transports in the field of Refinish Systems and Coatings for Plastics will now be controlled by the new SyncroTESS 8.0. In connection with this upgrade additional business processes will be supported by SyncroTESS. A change-over to the SAP standard interface will take place. The existing SAP connection via data file interface will be replaced by the standard IDOC-interface WM/LSR. Furthermore an exact tracking and tracing of loading units will be made possible by registration via bar code scanning. All fork lift trucks will be equipped with bar code scanners and materials flow tracing in SyncroTESS will be enabled.
